Dafydd Jones, Photographer
Dafydd Jones is an original. Not since Weegee has anyone done more to
make high society look so silly. Photos featuring Hugh Grant, Ivana
Trump, Anna Nicole Smith and other big cheeses looking not quite like
themselves. A laff-riot!
Piet den
Blanken: Cuba as it is.
Dutch photojournalist, published frequently in Europe, provides
recent environmental portraits of Cubans.
Ansel Adams: Fiat
Lux
While there is no web browser or computer screen that could reproduce
the detail and quality of an Ansel Adams print, this University of
California site is a fine try. Lots of photos, many relatively
obscure. Thumbprints linked to big files. Several audio files of
Adams discussing images.
Phoenix Process Black and

Joe Gioia's
Page
Street photography in New York with a 4x5 view camera, studio
portraiture with expired Polaroid film (with surprising results) and
this American photog's first foray into Cricket add up to a site

Some stunning landscapes of the American Southwest. If you like big
skies with dramatic clouds, this is the place. Some big downloads,
but worth the wait.
Portfolio of Quinn Jacobson
Quinn Jacobson's photographs are populated by people on the edge:
rock stars on stage, crack addicts, cowgirl preachers, skinheads on
the march, athletes making contact, and a woman pointing a gun at the
camera. Go to his Portfolio for some perceptive black and white
photojournalism (with a sprinkling of color).

Ken

The glorious results of a project produced for a Maine Photographic

forth to photograph Rockport Harbor.

Medium-format nature and architecture work from a West Coast-based

CD-Rom filled with, among other things, photojournalism by several
accomplished photographers, most notably Judah Passow. Topics include
coverage of Beirut from 1982-1985, the conflict in Bosnia, Kurds in
Turkey and Israel and the Palestinians. Some sample photos on the
site.
Marcus Ranum's Photo Page

machinery/architecture photos, and a witty warning introducing the
figure studies section.

newspaper at Glendale (AZ) Community College. Solid photojournalism
with an excellent feel for facial experessions.

Chicken cross the road?
Ulevich
Home Page and Image Attic
Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Neal Ulevich's images of
Vietnam, taken early 70s, are well-worth the long download time.

and army command posts and came back with images that tell a gripping
story.

Out
From A Cage: Napal Photographs
Richard Robinson begins the narrative accompanying his sepia-toned
images by saying, "There is the story of the black magician and how
he taught me to believe in magic." The photos finely reflect
Robinson's mystical journey.
New York, New
York
Great street photos that Garry Winogrand would have been proud of.
Tilted horizons, people rushing everywhere, their funky expressions
frozen by Steven Hirsch's daylight flash.
Dead
Birds
Carol Hudson is obsessed with roadkill. That's O.K., because the
images she has made of dead birds transcend their subjects as the
photographer uses her images to deal with mortality-related issues
and emotions.
Paris Images
It's the city of lights, where Cartier-Bresson, Atget and Dionseau
cut their teeth. Photos of the city that was made for photography.
MMAC Gallery

literal to strangely interperative. Some color, mostly black 'n
white; uneven, but mostly good work.

anti-AIDS protests taken at the Gay Pride in San Francisco with a
legendary all-plastic Diana camera by Richard Gilles.

Stars and Stripes photographer Ted Salios returns to Black and White
World with a redesigned home page and lots of new stuff. He has gone
background-crazy, but the photos still look great. Lots of Asian Rim
and military moments. Great eye.
PozzyTronic Individuation
Artist Aaron Gritzka's work is...well...different. Very conceptual
and rather playful, digitally-enhanced black and white work by this
multi-media artist. Worth a look.

Some neat environmental portraits. Check out "The Snake."
May 1996
Chaudoc, Vietnam

Thinh Le's fine photo essays capture living, working and growing up
in and around of Chaudoc, a small city of 75,000 in Vietnam, near the

returns to the town where he grew up to capture much more than
memories.
Review: 8 Photographers, 1
Theme
Eight French independent photographers present their photography,
taken around a common theme. A great place to see how different
creative minds interpret an idea, each interpretation worthwhile.
Worth revisiting.

Fine photojournalism from north-central Washington State with a
distinctly western flair, and good nature shots taken with a 4x5 view
camera, all by local photojournalist Al Camp.

nice scenic photos just happen to be available as backgrounds for
Visa credit cards.

meditations on a crumbled empire being patched together.

of a tall ship's crew. A unique perspective, well done.
Route 66:
Cruising the American Dream
In 1956, a swiss photographer went on a photographic journey through
America that was destined to influence a generation of photographers.
That photographer was Robert Frank. Some of the photos he made on
that historic road trip, plus more recent work, are reproduced on
this site.
LACMA
Masterpieces of Photography
Some of the best-known photographs by some of the best-known
photographers in the world are at this site. This is not
hyperbole--especially when the photos include The Steerage by Alfred
Steiglitz, and other equally well-known untitled works by Robert
Frank, Edward Weston, Aaron Siskind, Minor White, Lázló
Moholy-Nagy and Clarence John Laughlin. A must for students of
photographic history.
Larry
Burrows: A Life Tribute
Life magazine pays tribute to Larry Burrows, a Life
staff photographer who was killed while covering the war in Vietnam,
in this corner of the byzantine Pathfinder website. The photos chosen
beautifully represent the photographer's wit and compassion, and
should not be missed.
Julia
Marsalek Dawson
A celebration of celebrations, Julia Marsalek Dawson's photos are
playful, ironic and street-smart views of how Texans parade and
party. Her work dates as far back as 1976, and shows the strong
influence of her teachers, Rusell Lee and Garry Winogrand.
Gang Life in East L.A.
Joseph Rodriguez says the streets of East Los Angeles are akin to the
Wild West, but his photos and commentary show that East L.A. is
really an American failure. 40 photos shown at this site will soon be
published in East Side Stories: Gang Life in East LA
(Touchstone, Simon & Schuster).
Greenland 1994
The little town of Ililussat, Greenland, is home to the most active
glacier in the northern hemisphere. Stats: 20 million tons of ice
produced daily, producing icebergs up to 100 meters. Marc Deneyer
captured this very cool subject.
Steven E.
Gross's Portfolio
A bride kisses a kid with a big "M&M's" box hanging from his
neck; another rides a horse, while wearing her wedding gown, going
full speed ahead. Definitely non-traditional wedding photography.
The Street
View
Gregory Coan's street photos frame everyday events through a subtle,
perceptive eye. Taken in Maryland, they show slices of life as street
theater.
Market
Portraits
Taken in a market in Israel in the 70's, there are some great
environmental portraits at this site.
